Getting around the Island

Taxi

Taxis are not metered and use flat rates. Expect upcharges for additional passengers/luggage. Ask for a price up front. There is no bartering. If you call for a cab, expect to pay a bit more than one that is hailed on the street. Most taxi drivers carry their own cell phones, freely give you their business card, and can be reached directly.

Bus Service

There is bus service operated by VITrans

Rental Cars

There are local and US franchised rental agencies, some at the airport and some located around the island. Plan ahead.

The people on St. Croix drive on the left-hand side of the road. This can take some getting used to and visitors should be extra careful when driving on the island for the first time. St. Croix drivers are very respectful and often give way when traffic is dense. A quick toot of the horn or flash of the lights indicates that you should proceed.
