St Croix falls victim to the occasional hurricane. Hurricane Hugo, Category 5, in 1989 and Hurricane Maria, Category 5, in 2017 were the biggest ones. To this day, you can still see many ruins that resulted from Hugo and Maria. There is an Emergency Management Agency on the island. VITEMA
